About Us

Stephen’s Chapel Methodist church was established in the latter 1800s in the northwest part of Schulenburg near the City Cemetery. The cemetery was started around 1892 and the church was established in 1893. In the mid-1930s, the church building was transferred to the southwest corner of College Street and Wolters Avenue and is still standing today.

Stevens Chapel United Methodist Church, which was formerly named Stephen Methodist Church, has been in continuous existence in Schulenburg, Texas for more than 125 years and today is one of the oldest churches of any denomination to be established in the city.

The church is located near the Schulenburg High School and the members of the church are active in the community.
As of August 9, 2022, Stevens Chapel UMC has been officially designated as a historical marker from the State of Texas.
